Sustentabilidade econômica nada mais é do que a distribuição equilibrada das riquezas produzidas pelo homem.
Em outras palavras, seria a ideal utilização de toda riqueza produzida. Seja na igualdade de distribuição, seja na reposição para a natureza do que lhe foi retirado o que gera um desenvolvimento econômico mais estável sem picos ou situações de risco para a economia.
A sustentabilidade econômica não trabalha só com o presente. Seu foco também olha para o futuro, pois são através das ações economicamente sustentáveis de hoje que teremos uma sustentabilidade econômica amanhã. As ações para se alcançar uma economia sustentável precisam ser constantes.
Com uma economia sustentável, todos os outros aspectos da sociedade também são beneficiados. O meio ambiente, porque os recursos são utilizados com inteligência. A sociedade também ganha, pois as riquezas são divididas igualmente minimizando as diferenças sociais. Assim como, há poucas chances de grandes crises como picos na inflação, grande quantidade de fechamento de postos de trabalho, já que a nação não precisa depender financeiramente de outra ou de fundos monetários.
Vale lembrar que a economia sustentável não prevê o fim do lucro. É ele quem sustenta as empresas. Mas para se alcançar este tão almejado equilíbrio é necessário a modificação de olhar, de idéias de toda a sociedade, visando o bem estar geral no presente e futuro. O governo tem um papel de fundamental importância nesta conquista, afinal, é ele que controla. Cada vez que ele elabora e aplica restrições ambientais mais intensas, obriga as empresas não a terem prejuízo, mas a investir em pesquisa e novas tecnologias para tornar uma produção cada mais vez sustentável.
