O texto é uma mensagem, uma passagem falada ou escrita que forma um significado. Os textos variam conforme as intenções do autor. Em linguística ( ciência que estuda a língua), tipos textuais refere-se à estrutura que compõem os textos. Raramente um texto é construído com um só tipo,ou seja, podemos encontrar vários tipos em só texto. Os tipos textuais são: narração, argumentação, exposição, descrição, injunção, informativo e poético.
