A abordagem ecossistêmica em saúde (Gómez & Minayo, 2006) não se fundamenta na distância pesquisador / sujeitos de pesquisa, sejam eles comunidade de usuários ou de gestores / profissionais. Mas busca na base interdisciplinar do conhecimento a construção de relações participativas e reconhecedoras das diferenças. Assim, a interlocução entre os determinantes sociais da saúde e a abordagem ecossistêmica em saúde se concretiza no presente projeto. Essa abordagem sintoniza com a perspectiva interacionista simbólica, e se revela como um enfoque teórico e metodológico (Gómez & Minayo, 2006). Segundo esses autores, ao retomarem o histórico da abordagem ecossistêmica em saúde, fazem questão de apontá-la não como um modelo ou novo paradigma, mas como um enfoque que visa integrar pesquisa e intervenção
