A partir desse momento as empresas, com o interesse em exercer com eficiência e eficácia suas atividades, iniciam estudos e aplicações das práticas logísticas, no intuito, de melhorar e modernizar o desempenho empresarial. Com isso, o conceito evolui a uma nova concepção muito mais abrangente e entra em vigor, o Council of Logistics Management - , sendo uma versão mais moderna disponibilizada em outubro de 1999, em um Encontro realizado na cidade de Toronto no Canadá como sendo “o processo de planejamento, implantação e controle eficiente, fluxo efetivo e estocagem de bens e relação de informações, do ponto de origem ao ponto de consumo, para o atendimento dos requisitos do cliente”.
