Aristóteles propôs, em Arte Retórica, a organização da
oratória em três gêneros: a) o deliberativo
(dirigido a um auditório que se tem a intenção de aconselhar ou dissuadir); b) o forense ou
judiciário (orador acusa ou defende) e; c) o demonstrativo ou epidítico
(discurso religioso ou de repreensão ao cidadão). Esses discursos
seriam definidos pelas circunstâncias em que são produzidos,
considerando a categoria dos seus ouvintes.
