Considerando os aspectos acima mencionados, o relacionamento de mercado aberto com fornecedores é favorável e eficiente para a matriz (central de compras), pois ela conta com variedade de produtos em um só local e tem poder de barganha em função da sua escala de compra e condições de pagamento.
Com relação aos fornecedores regionais, o que existe na unidade de Viçosa é uma maior aproximação entre o produtor (fornecedor) e o gerente da unidade. Dessa forma, é estabelecido um acordo verbal entre eles a respeito da qualidade e da entrega dos produtos. No entanto, esse tipo de arranjo não se mostra eficiente,
pois os entrevistados reclamam da falta de disponibilidade de produtos de qualidade e de compromisso de entrega. Tais aspectos têm causado falta de produtos, pois não entregues no prazo pela ausência de entrega ou recusa do produto devido a baixa qualidade. Como consequência, os hortifrutis adquiridos na região muitas vezes faltam nas prateleiras em alguns dias ou em alguns períodos do dia.
No que se refere à qualidade dos produtos, uma vez que a matriz (central de compras) é exigente neste quesito, tal nível de exigência também ocorre nas compras feitas pelos gerentes locais. No caso dos produtos adquiridos na própria região de Viçosa, a empresa estudada está enfrentando uma dificuldade na gestão da cadeia de suprimentos.
